A fantastic idea to teach your student about technology.

Some good responses here! I like chicanawqsprof’s comment especially about connecting after the class is over, but I wonder about eeehutton’s response about extending the classroom. How do you do set boundaries around social and professional facebook?

An Open Source Project

Anyone in Sandakan area interested in creating an online ICT assessment system?

For the moment, there’s a school in Sandakan has approached me collaborating the project together. If you want to lend a hand, please contact me.

The school is currently planning to organize the project and make it open to all schools in the Sandakan district to involve. All I know is that they are going to issue letters to all schools in Sandakan district to join the competition or similar event.

I supposed to go to their school last week to have a look at their computer lab to decide how the project going to apply to their school whether it’ll be a local hosting or make it public hosting. Due to my busy schedule, I’ll have to contact them to set another appointment next week. I’ll keep this information posted.

Why Jumpajar?

In my opinion, the Sabahan ICT teachers have seldom met each other for any knowledge sharing either formally or informally as frequent as a few yrs back.

I could only recall that there was a seminar for ICT teachers at one of the secondary schools in Sandakan which I was supposed to give a talk on using Toolbook Assistant.  I was unable to attend the seminar because I had to help in creating modules for 3D animation modules for secondary schools.

I have transferred to my new school in Sandakan for almost a year now, I still find that many teachers in my sch really lack of interests to use any ICT tools to enhance their teaching processes. Some of them know how 2 use the software but using them for the wrong purpose.

I am hoping by creating this platform that we are able to find a few ‘beautiful souls’ who can do some volunteering works in educating each other for the sack of our ICT teachers n children in Sabah as well.

The main aim of Jumpajar is to meet (jumpa) and teach (ajar) each other willingly out of concern to help our ICT education for Sabahan children.

I am also hoping we can organize an informal meetup at any mamak restaurant, KFC or the new McDonald to gather and help each other in our teaching process. In order to do that, we are hoping people who are willing to help each other, will consider this a sharing of resources.

Anyone who is interested, just join our Jumpajar wagon and have a ‘big heart’ and prepare to help us. We really need someone like you.

Any misconduct in this post is solely the admin’s fault.

How to Respond to an Angry Student via Email

  • Do not respond immediately. Wait two or three days and carefully consider your response.
  • Use a professional tone.
  • Address the student by name.
  • Deal with only the issue brought up in the email.
  • Do not address personal matters via email. (If you need to address such issues, use the telephone.)
  • Limit your response to two or three lines. (“The more you write, the more ammunition you’re giving them to get angry all over again,” Brown said.)
  • Close “Respectfully, [your name].”
